Roselyn Nkhata Okoye: A Dedicated Advocate for Change
Malawian in Diaspora Association of Canada (Board Member), she actively contributes to the Malawian diaspora community in Canada and serves as the Director responsible for community welfare.
She is one of the board members who was involved in the formation and registration of the Association. She is a dynamic and accomplished professional with a passion for making a positive impact.
Her journey has been shaped by her educational pursuits, community involvement, and unwavering commitment to fostering meaningful change. Her leadership extends far beyond her professional duties. Her dedication to creating positive transformations in people’s lives is evident through her various roles: Vice President, University of Winnipeg Student Union. She passionately advocated for international students’ rights, including their ability to work off-campus. Her tireless efforts contributed to a more inclusive and supportive environment. Board Member, Citizen Advisory Committee for Correctional Service Canada. She actively participated in shaping policies related to corrections and rehabilitation. Her insights helped improve the justice system and promote fairness. Board of Directors, Manitoba Volunteer Centre. She believes in the power of volunteerism. Her multifaceted contributions, from student advocacy to community leadership, exemplify her dedication to positive change. Her journey continues to inspire others, and her impact resonates far beyond borders.
She holds Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies, University of Winnipeg and currently pursuing her second degree in computer science. Through her academic journey, she gained a critical understanding of international organizations, governmental systems, and global dynamics. Her education laid the foundation for her future endeavors.

Lusekelo Mwamondwe, also known as Kelo, is Chairperson of the Association from 2021 and her term of office ends in 2025. She brings to the board her experience in financial services, spanning across 20+ years. Leveraging her exposure to past career roles, she has guided the Board and the Association in its formative years to establish policies, sound financial management and compliance to tax and NFP Act guidelines. In addition, several community-oriented initiatives have been initiated under the Welfare committee of the Board. She is passionate about the Malawian community in Canada and enjoys serving in a volunteer capacity and ensuring that the Association’s objectives are implemented. Among others, during her tenure, the Association received its first funding from Government of Canada, disbursed through the Supporting Black Lusekelo Mwamondwe, also known as Kelo, is Chairperson of the Association from 2021 and her term of office ends in 2025. She brings to the board her experience in financial services, spanning across 20+ years. Leveraging her exposure to past career roles, she has guided the Board and the Association in its formative years to establish policies, sound financial management and compliance to tax and NFP Act guidelines. In addition, several community-oriented initiatives have been initiated under the Welfare committee of the Board. She is passionate about the Malawian community in Canada and enjoys serving in a volunteer capacity and ensuring that the Association’s objectives are implemented. Among others, during her tenure, the Association received its first funding from Government of Canada, disbursed through the Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI) and The Africa Centre, which was for capacity building, under project name “Growth to Strong”. Her professional journey is in banking, with focus on Treasury and Balance Sheet Management. She has worked in Malawi and Canada, both in analyst and senior roles. She holds an MSc and MBA in International Finance and Banking, a Postgraduate in Management, a Bachelor’s degree and several certifications in Treasury Management and International trade. She is a mother of two wonderful girls, she is a Christian and attributes all about her life to God’s goodness and grace. She is a Maths and Science nerd, enjoys fitness, dancing, cooking and reading about economic developments.
Nathan is actively involved in voluntary activities and sits on Malawian in Diaspora Association of Canada (MiDAC) as a Board member and he actively participates in the initiatives for the wellness and collective bridging of Canadians of Malawian origin, friends of Malawi, Malawians based in Canada and Malawi. Nathan brings to MiDAC a wealth of experience covering management, improving team dynamics, governance, research, hiring and succession planning, and his work in healthcare services has led him to sit on several provincial and Zonal committees including the Provincial Surgical Strategic Clinical Network, Provincial Surgical Operation Committee, Provincial Surgical Initiatives, among others. As Director Surgical Services. he is accountable and responsible for leading the operational management of surgical services at Alberta Health Services (AHS) at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and Queen Elizabeth II Ambulatory Care Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta in Canada.
